West Elm | J. McLaughlin
As part of a new outdoor shopping and lifestyle center developed by H.G. Hill Realty for Green Hills, SDR designed the anchor store inhabited by West Elm. The structure holds the corner of the development and addresses not only the busy street that borders one face but also the bustling through street and pedestrian sidewalks that link to the rest of the retail spaces. The building uses large glass walls to exhibit the retail space inside and provide a glowing effect to the adjacent community. The shape of the curved, standing seam, metal roof adds visual interest and the mixture of building materials helps to break up an otherwise large structure.
J. McLaughlin, a smaller space located on inner corner in the same development, gave the SDR design team the opportunity to use an array of bright colors. Although the space had predetermined, large masonry openings and designated signage spaces, the design team worked to create an alluring storefront while maintaining the standards for the J. McLaughlin brand.
